The three geotechnical engineering professors, Prof. Dr Katharina Kluge (Mainz University of Applied Sciences), Prof. Dr Ansgar Kirsch (Aachen University of Applied Sciences) and Prof. Dr Christoph Budach (Cologne University of Applied Sciences) have been collaborating for some time to further develop teaching in the field of geotechnical engineering. Geotechnical engineering, a key foundation of civil engineering, is now being taught in a clear and practical way through educational videos.
The idea to produce the videos arose during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to restrictions on face-to-face contact, new ways had to be found to continue offering students a high-quality education. This resulted in around 20 German-language educational films that explain geotechnical field and laboratory tests in detail and in a clear, accessible manner.
The educational films are not only being used successfully in university courses, but also offer practitioners – such as staff at engineering consultancies, geotechnical laboratories and construction companies – a valuable opportunity to refresh and deepen their knowledge of geotechnical engineering. The films provide a practical presentation of the fundamentals of geotechnical engineering and link theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.
